Camping and Boat Expedition
There are places you visit.
And then there are places you truly experience.
This expedition is designed for those who want to discover Svalbard in its most authentic form, far from conventional tourist routes and the comforts of everyday life. Four days immersed in the Arctic wilderness, combining camping, boat exploration and wildlife encounters in one of the most extreme and fascinating environments on Earth.
We will have access to a specially equipped inflatable boat designed for Arctic exploration, allowing us to navigate through Isfjorden and along its coastline, following nature’s rhythm as we search for the extraordinary wildlife inhabiting this remote corner of the planet.
Our goal is not simply to reach a destination, but to follow whatever unfolds around us: the movements of a walrus colony, the sudden flight of thousands of seabirds, a whale surfacing from the depths, or the rare and unforgettable sight of a polar bear.
IN SEARCH OF ARCTIC WILDLIFE
Svalbard is a sanctuary of biodiversity in the heart of the Arctic.
During our explorations, we may encounter magnificent walruses, observe spectacular Arctic birdlife including puffins, guillemots and Arctic terns, and search for the great marine mammals that travel through these waters, including the fascinating beluga whales.
And then there is the ultimate Arctic predator.
The polar bear.
This is its territory.
Every day will be an exercise in observation and awareness. We will scan coastlines, mountains, ice and distant horizons, searching for tracks, movements and subtle signs that might reveal its presence.
We cannot predict what we will encounter.
And that is precisely what makes this a true adventure.
FOUR DAYS OF CAMPING IN THE ARCTIC
For four days, we will leave everyday life behind and live directly within the environment we have come to explore.
Camping will be an essential part of the experience: simple, minimalist and completely immersed in nature.
In Svalbard, however, even the concept of “night” takes on a different meaning. During the midnight sun season, the sun never sets, and the landscape remains bathed in continuous daylight.
And it is during these hours that one of the most unique aspects of our expedition begins.
Every participant will be required to complete an individual one-hour camp watch each night.
During this hour, each participant will take their turn alone, with the responsibility of monitoring the camp perimeter and scanning the surrounding landscape for polar bears that may approach the campsite.
We will have binoculars available to carefully observe the mountains, coastlines and surrounding horizon.
Before the expedition begins, our captain and expedition guide will provide specific training. They will explain how to identify the presence of polar bears in the landscape, which signs to look for and how to behave during the watch.
We will also receive instructions on the use of a flare gun, including proper handling procedures and, most importantly, the circumstances in which it should be used.
We will be clearly instructed on what to do if a polar bear approaches the campsite, which safety procedures to follow and how to manage the situation safely.
This will be a responsibility shared by the entire group, but experienced individually during each participant’s watch.
One hour.
Alone.
Surrounded by an immense Arctic landscape, beneath the endless light of the midnight sun, knowing that you are standing in the territory of the Arctic’s largest land predator.
SAFETY AND PREPARATION
Safety always comes first.
The presence of a polar bear is not a spectacle to seek out, nor a situation to be taken lightly. For this reason, before departure and throughout the expedition, we will strictly follow the instructions of our captain and expedition guide, who will be responsible for managing the group’s safety procedures.
We will learn how to observe the environment, recognise potential signs of wildlife activity and correctly use the safety equipment provided.
Throughout the expedition, warm protective suits and clothing suitable for Arctic conditions will be included, along with food and logistical support.
If necessary, appropriate procedures and resources will also be available for emergency assistance and rescue operations.
THIS IS NOT A TRIP FOR EVERYONE
And that is exactly what makes it special.
This expedition is designed for those who are not simply looking for a holiday, but who want to challenge themselves, adapt to the environment and experience Svalbard in its most authentic form.
Sleeping in a tent.
Navigating among fjords, mountains and ice.
Scanning the horizon in search of a beluga whale.
Coming face to face with a colony of walruses.
Listening to the silence of the Arctic beneath the midnight sun.
And spending one hour alone, watching over the camp in polar bear territory.
Four days beyond the ordinary.
Four days in the heart of the Arctic.
Don’t come to Svalbard just to admire it from a distance.
Come to experience it.
